The safeguarding of the children entrusted into our care is something we take very seriously at KSM. Children are our primary concern and their health and wellbeing is key to a successful student. We are continually keeping our academic staff up to date with current practice in the UK and continued professional development is crucial in developing outstanding teachers.

Early in Term 1 we were delighted to host Aspire Group at The King’s School Manila. Aspire Group are a UK based company who are international specialists in the provision of safeguarding training. Aspire have an exceptional reputation and pride themselves on the work that they have done to up-skill local and expat staff in the numerous international schools that they have worked with.

Over the three days that Aspire were with us, all staff had the chance to gain their Level 2 or Level 3 UK safeguarding qualifications. As well as becoming up to date with current UK practice, staff were then able to review current KSM policies and procedures.

The courses were delivered by experienced professionals (Liz Gailer and Paul Read) from both a social services, education and policing background. This course built on the previous training and provided staff with:

1. A clear understanding of the designated safeguarding lead role and its main responsibilities in an educational context.
2. An opportunity to relate subject material to their operational context.
3. An opportunity to discuss and identify best practice in the safeguarding arena.

Both Liz and Paul thoroughly enjoyed their professional interaction with the staff at KSM and commented on how committed the staff are to the care of the students.
